Bandwagon, Vol. 4, No. 1 (Jan-Feb), 1960. None of the illustrations are included. The Circus Historical Society does not guarantee the accuracy of information contained in the information in these online articles. Information should always be checked with additional sources.
This show was chosen by the Circus Historical Society as the "Circus of the Year" in the early spring of 1959 and it is just that.
Many new innovations appeared on the Al G. Kelly & Miller Bros. Combined Circus lot in 1959. New canvas throughout, the vast free menagerie, the old style circus side show, a full scale circus cookhouse complete with white jacketed waiters, griddles and steamtables.
Plans were laid at the end of the 1958 season to convert the Al G. Kelly & Miller Bros. Circus from a modern day circus to a traditional old time circus under a vast spread of canvas. Every plan and idea conceived throughout the 1958 season became a reality by opening day of the 1959 season. The management spared no expense to present a stronger performance under the six pole big top by using many imported acts from five foreign countries. New and more practical seat wagons were constructed in our winter quarters, more and better lighting, etc. Everything was done to satisfy the most discriminating customer.
The Kelly-Miller Side Show offered what the public expected in the way of a circus side show to and including a fire manipulator, the old fashioned London Punch and Judy was returned this season along with many, many stellar side show attractions.
The Miller family has put the "circus" back into the circus. They have suceeded over these many years, where others have failed because of this. Operation of the circus over the years has proven that they have the "knowhow, ability and foresight" and they have applied good management to every phase of the operation. Under these conditions, the Kelly-Miller Circus could do nothing but succeed. As the Bandwagon goes to press, the 1959 season is history, plans are already being laid for the 1960 season. More new seat wagons, additional canvas, more stock and many other new features will appear on the lot in 1960. All these plans and many more will take shape during the 1959-60 winter season, which will further prove a bigger, better, grander than ever before "Al G. Kelly and Miller Bros. Circus.

The show this season had an endless run of bad weather. It had several blow downs and near blow downs. The show was faced with many rainy days and muddy lots. In the last two weeks of the season the show had thirteen consecutive days of rain and following that many muddy lots. In Wisconsin the show encountered extreme hot weather with very high humidity. Business for the show was spotty throughout the season. There were many big days inter-mixed with some of the very light business.
