My great Grand father rode with the 101 ranch
in the panhandle which was then run by George Washington Miller. These were the words of my Grand mother.

Comment on Sparks Circus by Larry Sparks https://circushistory.org/sparks-circus/#comment-280 Mon, 17 Oct 2022 13:25:19 +0000 https://circushistory.org/?p=1539#comment-280 In reply to Jacob Rubino.

Very interesting information here. I would like to know more about the original owner John Sparks. Was he from the Sparks brothers and Cousins that migrated from Fareham Hampshire England about 1662. Most settled in Queen Anns County and Frederick County Maryland. Their descendants moved down the Great Wagon Trail into Virginia and my branch went through North Carolina and on to Tennessee. See Sparks Family Tree or Sparks Quarterly.

Hey Alison, I’m actually producing a show of Elephant’s Graveyard next Spring, the play that revolves around Sparks Circus and tells the story of Mary the elephant. If you have the pictures, I’d absolutely love to see them for better reference of historical accuracy! If you’d like, you could send copies to my email at jacobrubino11@gmail.com!

Comment on Barnum & Bailey Owners’ Bill by Adrienne Saint-Pierre https://circushistory.org/barnum-bailey-owner-bill/#comment-158 Wed, 15 Dec 2021 21:33:29 +0000 https://circushistory.org/?p=2213#comment-158 Chris, thank you for this post. The Barnum Museum has an original poster like this, and a few years ago, a reproduction (smaller size) was given to us. We have had several inquiries about this poster over the years, so I am happy now to know exactly when it was produced (and reproduced) and also that it represents a genre of advertising designed to showcase business owners. The comparison to the Smith Brothers’ cough drop advertising makes your point about the goal to build “trust” with consumers.

Comment on Rediscovered! by Thomas C. Spaeth https://circushistory.org/rediscovered/#comment-142 Sat, 13 Nov 2021 01:58:23 +0000 https://circushistory.org/?p=1982#comment-142 I have found boards with posters from the 1890 Ringling Brothers “United Monster Rail Road Show” on boards my house was built with. The circus was in Cedarburg, WI on August 2nd, 1890.
I had taken pictures and pieces of the parts of the posters to the Circus World Museum Robert L. Parkinson Library and Research Center. I talked to Pete Shrake the Archivist, he suggested contacting the Circus Historical Society and Chris Berry to find information on the full poster, on the boards from my house. Can anyone help me with my search. Or, should I post the picture on the the Circus Historical Society?
